James Logan High School in Union City is one of ten finalists in a national contest to win “the world’s smallest HD mobile production vehicle.”
Contest sponsor NewTek selected Logan from hundreds of entries. The school is one of eight high schools and two universities who are in the final round of the contest competing to win the grand prize valued at more than $50,000. The winner will be announced mid-December.
For the final stage of the contest students in Logan’s Electronic Media Production (EMP) Academy created the above three-minute video. It tries to convince the judges that Logan will be the best home for the NewTek Streaming Sports Car.
The entry features a simulated “Game of the Week” that demonstrates what Logan would be able to produce if the school wins. The video ends with students predicting Logan as the “Future home of NewTek’s Streaming Sports Car.” Visit LoganTV.net to view the contest entry and other student produced videos.
“We had a lot of fun creating our entry” commented Kiersten Villanueva, who directed the Logan video. “We think we did a great job and our chances of winning are good.”
The contest’s Grand Prize includes a TriCaster 455 with 3Play 425, a complete video production system that allows live-streaming of a multi-camera video production incorporating 3D visual effects and slow-motion. All of the HD gear is built into a custom SmartCar to allow live sports coverage for both home and away games.
Students enrolled in Logan’s EMP Academy take video production classes sponsored by Mission Valley ROP, a provider of career training for high tech, high pay and high demand fields that serves students in Fremont, Newark and Union City.
The students who created Logan’s entry include Mohammed Ali, Augustus Egipto Jr., Jennifer Eubank, Brandon Evangelista, Michael Fajardo, Ricardo Guzman, Terrance Ramirez, Ranelle Sanchez, Sean Stewart, Ulysses Tan, Kiersten Villanueva, and Isaiah Wahilani. They are all seniors enrolled in Multimedia Workshop, a course taught by video instructor Rich Yacco.
